Part 3: The Gospel Preached By the Apostles and First Christians

The Gospel Message as Preached by the Early Church.
The Gospel as given to us by the Apostles is everlasting and unchangeable.
Below is a list of Bible verses that give the basic and foundational gospel message that was delivered to the apostles and preached by the first Christians. This message was proclaimed throughout the book of Acts and in New Testament Scripture. It is the message the true church proclaims today.

Paul’s Gospel
1 Corinthians 15: 1-4
“Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you---unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time.”

Romans 16: 25-27 (16:17-27)
“Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began but now made manifest, and by the prophetic Scriptures made known to all nations, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, for obedience to the faith---to God, alone wise, be glory through Jesus Christ forever. Amen.”

Galatians 1: 6-9, 11
“I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.  As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.”
“But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ.”

 Paul’s “Roman Road” to Salvation
John 3: 16
For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Romans 3: 23
For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.

Romans 6: 23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 5: 8
But God demonstrated His love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.

Romans 10: 9
That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus Christ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart man believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

The Church is to Preach Christ
1 Corinthians 3: 11
“For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”

Luke 24: 27
“And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.”

Luke 24: 45-49
“And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures. Then He said to them, ‘Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.”

 1 Corinthians 1: 23
“For we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness….”

1 Corinthians 2: 2
“For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.”

Luke 6: 47
“Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like. He is like a man who dug deep and laid the foundation on a rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock."
But he who heard and did nothing is like the man is like a man who built a house on the earth (sand) without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently, and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”

The book of Colossians
The theme in Colossians is the preeminence of Jesus Christ. The term “in Him” is used over and over in Colossians.
